What are the reasons for ADHD?
10 Feb 2020
As we know the etiology of such disease is thought to be multifactorial with a strong genetic liability.
The most common causes of ADHD are: genetics, pre- and perinatal risk factors, environmental toxins.

● Genetics. Twin and adoption studies have shown that heritability of ADHD is around 70%. The way ADHD is inherited is likely to be complex and is not thought to be related to a single genetic fault.

⠀ However, environmental risk factors appear to play a role in the development of the disorder. They are:
● pre- and perinatal risk factors (maternal stress, smoking or alcohol consumption during pregnancy and low birth weight, prematurity);

● environmental toxins (organophosphates, polychlorinated biphenyls, lead).

There is no evidence that ADHD is caused by:

✔ eating too much sugar;

✔ food additives;

✔ allergies ;

✔ immunizations.
