The most common causes of ADHD are: genetics, pre- and perinatal risk factors, environmental toxins.
● Genetics. Twin and adoption studies have shown that heritability of ADHD is around 70%. The way ADHD is inherited is likely to be complex and is not thought to be related to a single genetic fault.
⠀ However, environmental risk factors appear to play a role in the development of the disorder. They are: ● pre- and perinatal risk factors (maternal stress, smoking or alcohol consumption during pregnancy and low birth weight, prematurity);
